Bigpoint wins prestigious LARA Game Award

- Online Game award goes to Bigpoint browser game Farmerama
Hamburg, July 1, 2010 – Bigpoint, the European leader in online games, won an award for Farmerama at this year's German Game Awards (LARA). The farming simulation game beat out such renowned competition as Alamandi (Intenium) and Europe 1400 (Gameforge).
The LARA jury was won over by Farmerama's many great features, such as the lively farm community and the multitude of customization possibilities on the virtual homestead. Since the game's launch in January 2010, approximately 6 million players have registered, translating into an average of 250,000 new registrations per day. The game's official Facebook group, meanwhile, now has over 60,000 fans.
"We're really happy that Farmerama was honored with one of Germany's most prestigious game awards”, said Heiko Hubertz, Bigpoint CEO. “Farmerama's launch was the most successful in Bigpoint history, and we're very proud of that. The award is a confirmation that we should continue to develop browser games with top-quality graphics.”
The LARA Awards were the brainchild of the popular German industry magazine “Gamesmarkt”. They're judged by a jury and are considered one of the highest honors in the German game industry. The Online Award was conferred for the first time this year at the ceremony in Cologne, Germany, where it was held for the fourth time.
